Alenka Pirman is an artist, curator and writer based in Ljubljana. She worked as the editor in chief of the Likovne besede and M’zin magazines (1990–93), artistic director of the Škuc Gallery (1990–96), assistant director of the Soros center for Contemporary Arts – Ljubljana (1997–99), vice-president of the Management Board of the International Contemporary Art Network (ICAN, 1998–99) and co-founder and mentor of the World of Art educational programme for contemporary art curators (1996–98). She conceived Artservis.org, an online service for artists and producers and worked as its editor-in-chief (2001–04). In 2009 she designed the information architecture of the Culture.si web portal of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Slovenia and has served as its editor. In the 90’s her artistic work was related to three fictitious institutions: the SK8 Museum (1991–93), the RIGUSRS – Research Institute for Geo Art Statistics of the Republic of Slovenia (1997; with Vuk Ćosić and Irena Wölle), and the Domestic Research Institute (1994–98). She then collaborated with the artistic collectives / platforms like Luther Blissett/01.org (1998) and Bughouse (2002–03). She has carried out several methodological exhibition projects such as Arcticae horulae (1991–98) The Case. Art and Criminality (Police Museum, 2005) and Jelenometry (2007). She is the founding member of the Domestic Research Society (2004), where she develops collaborative research-, exhibition- or web-based projects (The Cabinet, 2005–2010; Unleashed Tongue, 2004–; Indija.si, 2007–; Word for Word, Without Words, 2010; Hard Facts, since 2012).
